Thailand cracks down on ‘hardcore’ booze tours to S Korea

Thursday, 19 Feb, 2016 0
The Thailand Tourism ministry has moved to block travel companies from selling ‘hardcore’ alcohol fuelled trips to South Korea.

Online advertisements began surfacing last week for tours of pubs and entertainment venues in South Korea promoting excessive drinking.

A statement said tourism minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul ordered a crackdown as it could damage the country’s image, the Bangkok Post reported.

According to the statement, tourist police officers raided one agent selling the tours, Always Happy Travel Co, and detained one person for selling travel packages without a permit.

The firm had advertised tours due to begin next month for THB26,000 per person.

The news report said tourism ministry officials will discuss the matter with tourist police and the ministry of information and communication technology  to ban travel companies from advertising ‘morally improper’ tour packages.
