Thailand is back to normal and it is not just marketing and pr spin!
Stabilising the political situation in Thailand is very important if the country wants to attract more international tourists, but in reality the coup in Thailand was the damp squib that everybody in Thailand really expected it to be, taking place in a very well orchestrated manner with the former head of government and most of his Ministers out of the country – bit of bad planning on their part you might say!
Realising that confidence has to be restored very quickly, the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA) and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) have made an official announcement on security and tourism, sending the information to different countries in the region with the purpose of minimising any impacts on the country’s highly profitable tourism industry.
According to ATTA, tourism has been defined as a principle industry of the country, and that the new government will thoroughly support the development of tourism. It has also been announced that domestic and international airports, airline services and airport transfers are operating normally in Bangkok and throughout the country and shopping malls, restaurants and the majority of commercial outlets in Bangkok are open for business.
PATA said the calm situation could be attributed to no reports of violence, civil disorder or mass protests, especially due to the fact that all tourists understand that it was a bloodless coup, so since September 20, everything in Bangkok has been normal.
Tours taking tourists to visit the Royal Palace have been operating as usual, however, the Thai military still has soldiers at several points around the palace to ensure the security in the area until a new Prime Minister is selected. Many international tourists have made the most of the opportunity to have their photos taken with Thai soldiers beside their tanks, which is an indicator of the relaxed and as normal atmosphere in Bangkok.
Globally tour operators and airlines hardly blipped in their operations into Thailand if at all with all tours to Thailand operating after operators being certain that safety of their passengers was ensured.
So Go Aussies go – to Thailand!
