Thailand, Singapore in motorsports meltdown
It’s not been a good week for motor sport in Asia with Thailand being forced to change the venue for its F1 Grand Prix in 2015 and Singapore dumping plans to build a motorsports hub.
TTR Daily reported that Thailand will find a new venue to host an F1 Grand Prix in 2015 after it was discovered a city ordinance forbids motor racing in inner Bangkok.
Previously, the Sports Authority of Thailand agreed to select a riverside circuit to host the race covering almost 6km, including inner city sites.
The holiday island of Phuket is now under consideration as a venue for the race.
In Singapore the Sports Council (SSC) said it would not proceed with the motorsports hub project after potential investors called for certain conditions to make the hub commercially viable, "which we cannot accede to".
These conditions and said to have included flexibility of lease terms and land use, and tax subsidies or concessions from the government.
