Thailand to start sea plane tourism pilot project
Thailand is launching a pilot scheme to introduce sea plane tourism routes across the country.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has teamed up with private operators in a project based at Koh Kradan in Trang province.
The island will host flight tests which are set to begin this year.
Two licensed sea plane operators – Siam Seaplane and Thai Seaplane will participate.
It is being mooted aa favourable way to transport tourists to and from Thailand’s lesser known islands and connect them with other major tourism hubs.
The long-term goal is to develop sea plane routes with passenger terminals and related infrastructure.
Air Chief Marshal Manat Chavanaprayoon, CAAT’s director, said it has strong potential to boost island tourism.
