Thanksgiving cheaper holiday than Christmas

If you are choosing between Christmas and Thanksgiving as the only holiday to travel based on price, choose the later, says Priceline.com.

It says that overall travel at Thanksgiving is cheaper.

Priceline.com says the average Thanksgiving airline ticket is US$361 this year, compared to the average Christmas holiday fares of US$440.

But there is another way to interpret this result.

Are perhaps the best fares are already here for Thanksgiving, more than a month away, but not for Christmas, more than two months away.

"Last year, the economy started its freefall right before the holidays and many consumers put their wallets back in their pockets,” said Priceline’s Brian Ek. “As a result, the airlines ran fare sales right into the holidays to spur demand. “

He added:

"This year, we’re not likely to see a repeat. In fact, prices may go up, since seat capacity is even lower this year compared to last year."
