That’s the Spirit! Tourist train is back on track
The launch of the newly refurbished Spirit of Queensland train marks a new era for Queensland’s long distance rail network, according to peak national industry body Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF).
The revamped Spirit of Queensland train made its first commercial trip this week, the first project in Queensland Rail’s A$200 million investment.
TTF deputy CEO Trent Zimmerman said the service would provide a major boost for Queensland’s tourism industry.
"This represents a new era in train travel for Australia, providing an airline-like experience with the revolutionary RailBeds and personal entertainment systems," he said.
The Brisbane to Cairns route will feature two RailBed carriages and three new full leather premium economy carriages.
"The service will also encourage regional dispersal of visitors along Queensland’s coast as the train stops at several regional locations including Bundaberg, Bowen and Innisfail," said Zimmerman.
