The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) says 100 destinations have now earned the ‘Safe Travels’ designation in just three months.

‘Safe Travels’ is the first-ever global safety and hygiene stamp which sets out strict protocols for health and hygiene.

It enables travellers to recognise destinations which have met health and hygiene global standardised protocols.

It is supported by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO.

Asian destinations which have been certified include the Maldives, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines, which became the 100th to receive the stamp.

European nations include Spain, Portugal, Slovenia and Croatia.

It also includes several nations across Africa and the Americas, such as Egypt, Kenya, Costa Rica, Colombia and Ecuador.

"The 100 destinations which now proudly use the stamp are working together to help rebuild consumer confidence worldwide. The success of the Safe Travels stamp shows its importance not only to countries and destinations, but also to travellers and the 330 million people around the world who work in a thriving travel and tourism sector," said Gloria Guevara, WTTC President and CEO.

According to the WTTC 2020 Economic Impact Report, global tourism generates one in four of all new jobs and about 10.3% of global GDP.
