The Ultimate Escorted ANZAC Tour for 2008
GMTC has released an unique tour to the Australian travel industry, an escorted ANZAC Tour The Australian Light Horse Commemorative Tour which will combine ANZAC Day in Gallipoli 2008 and the opening ceremony on April 28th of a statue to honour the deeds of the Australian Light Horsemen in the newly formed “Park of the Australian Soldier” in Beersheba, Israel led by the Australian Prime Minister (be it Howard or Rudd) to commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Australian Light Horse Beersheba Charge, Australia’s greatest military victory in WWI.
The tour will cover Israel, Light Horse battlefields in Turkey and concludes with a visit to Jordan.
The tour is led by Colonel Chris Donovan [pictured right] Honorary Colonel of the 12th / 16th Hunter River Lancers (formerly the 12th Light Horse Brigade) which contributed half of the 800 horsemen who participated in the word’s last successful horse cavalry charge.
This event altered the entire history of the Middle East. Colonel Donovan is an official member of the Prime Minister’s party for the Beersheba ceremony which means the entire group will be involved.
Chris Donovan has a distinguished military career with the Australian army and is an expert on all aspects Australian Light Horse history.
Colonel Donovan is accompanied by his wife Tricia, [pictured below] an expert in European, Ottoman and Middle East Art and a member of the Association of Auctioneers and Valuers – Australia. Her expertise will be invaluable for group members seeking genuine souvenirs in the markets of Istanbul, and Jerusalem.

The group spends six days in Israel with the highlight being the involvement in the Beersheba commemorations on April 28. The group will visit Jerusalem, the Dead Sea are and the Galilee in Israel. They will also visit Petra, Mt Nebo and Amman in Jordan. The tour returns to Australia on 06 May.
