The world’s most expensive speeding ticket
A Swedish motorist who was driving so fast in his US$140,000 Mercedes that radar could not detect his speed until he encountered a newer radar unit that clocked him at 180 miles per hour.
When finally stopped, he explained: "I think the speedo on the car, which is new, is faulty.”
The speed limit on the A12 highway near Bern is a posted maximum of 70 miles per hour.l
Switzerland authorities calculate fines on the basis not just of how fast someone is driving but also how wealthy they are. The Mercedes driver must have been well off because he was fined just over US$1 million.
