A third of Britons have ignored foreign office travel warnings before going on holiday, according to a survey by a flight comparison site.
The survey of 2,174 people by www.jetcost.co.uk found only 21% heeded the advice if they knew a warning was in place.
Just under half (46%) revealed that they have never been aware, or researched whether there was a travel warning in place before going on holiday.

When asked why they had ignored the travel warning, and the top responses were ‘I had already paid and didn’t want to cancel’ (52%), ‘I didn’t believe there was any real danger’ (26%) and ‘I think the foreign office over-exaggerates’ (19%).
Over half of Britons have been a victim of crime whilst on holiday abroad, with being robbed or pickpocketed the most common criminal activity experienced.~

"Whilst it might be annoying to cancel a holiday or adjust your plans, it’s important to pay attention to the warnings provided by the foreign office. Particularly with the recent severe weather conditions – at home and abroad – you need to be aware of the warnings in place to make sure you’re as safe as possible," said a spokesperson for www.jetcost.co.uk.~

"It’s also horribly sad to hear about how many have been a victim to crime whilst on holiday. Be vigilant, don’t trust strangers and look out for each other whilst you’re abroad."
