Thomas Cook announces two key Board appointments…

Friday, 03 Oct, 2013 0

Two new members have joined the Board of Thomas Cook Group plc.

Carl Symon and Warren Tucker have joined today as independent non-executive directors.

Symon will become the senior independent director and Tucker will become chairman of the Remuneration Committee following the company’s AGM in February 2014, when Roger Burnell will retire from the Board.

Symon retired from IBM in 2001 after a long career, during which he held various senior positions, both globally and as chairman and CEO of IBM UK.

He is currently a non-executive director of BAE Systems plc. His former positions include non-executive director of BT Group plc, Rolls-Royce Group plc and Rexam plc and chairman of HMV Group plc.

Tucker was, from 2003 until May 2013, chief financial officer of Cobham plc.

He is a chartered accountant and has previously held senior finance positions at British Airways plc and Cable & Wireless plc.

He has also been a non-executive director of Reckitt Benckiser Group plc since February 2010.

Thomas Cook Group chairman Frank Meysman said: “Following the successful completion of our £1.6 billion capital refinancing this summer and the ongoing progress we are making with our business transformation, we are pleased to be able to attract two further high calibre non-executive directors to join our Board.

"Carl and Warren have technology and finance backgrounds and bring a wealth of international listed company experience. Both currently serve as NEDs on the Boards of UK FTSE 40 companies.

"I would also like to thank Roger Burnell for his support and contribution over the years, particularly on the development of our improved remuneration policy and engagement with shareholders, as we drive our pay for performance culture. Whilst Roger will continue to serve until the AGM I, and my colleagues on the Board, wish him well for the future.”
