Thomas Cook reports five-fold rise in Tunisia bookings
Thomas Cook has tipped Tunisia as a one to watch for summer 2019 with demand ‘showing no sign of slowing down’.
The destination was reintroduced by Thomas Cook in February nearly three years after a terror attack on a beach in Sousse killed 38 people.
The UK Government lifted its ban on travel to Tunisia in July 2017, declaring increased security meant it was safe for British holidaymakers to return.
Thomas Cook said bookings for next summer are up five-fold, although it admitted the figures were misleading because this time last year its summer 2018 holidays had only been available to book for a few months.
It said the share of family bookings is up 16% year-on-year so that families so far account for 66% of summer 2019 bookings – a higher proportion than to the Canaries or Cyprus.
But it said Tunisia is also proving popular for couples.
For next summer Thomas Cook is offering 27 hotels across six resorts and 17 weekly flights from the UK, up from 11 this summer.
