A charity celebrity golf event in Cyprus is to be run by Thomas Cook.

The event on September 30 at the Aphrodite Hills resort will raise money towards building a children’s critical care unit at Kings College Hospital in conjunction with the Variety Club.

Among the celebrities who have agreed to participate are Sir Henry Cooper, Jasper Carrott, Ian St John and Ed Stuart.

Tickets for UK golfers cost £131, including green fee, club hire, buffet lunch and a presentation dinner. Each player will join a team of four, with one celebrity or professional golfer per team. Up to 120 players are expected to participate in the event.

The operator is offering packages to Cyprus starting at £339 for seven nights, departing September 26.

Overseas operations and customer delivery director Pete Constanti said: “Thomas Cook has made a commitment to raise £2 million over two years to fund the new children’s unit at Kings College Hospital.

“This charity golf day is a major fundraising initiative. It’s the first time we have ever organised a charity golf event, but with Thomas Cook’s presence in Cyprus and the help and support of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation we are confident that it will be a huge success.”
