Thomson investigates claims of sexual assault in resort
A woman who claims she was twice assaulted while on holiday has said she was not taken seriously when she reported what happened.
Gemma Khan told the Sunday Mirror she was assaulted at the Be Live Collection Marien hotel in the Dominican Republic, when she was on holiday last month.
In the first incident, she said two locals tried to untie her bikini as she walked from the pool to her room. Security guards ignored her call for help.
Then, two days later, she says a member of staff stroked her leg in the souvenir shop.
She claims she was too afraid to leave her room after the incidents and her complaints were not acted upon by the Thomson rep.
Khan, who is 25, paid £900 for the holiday, which she described as a ‘nightmare’. She said she was not told locals were allowed in the resort at the weekends.
She added she received a ‘blank expression’ when she complained to the manager and Thomson rep.
A Thomson spokesman said the operator has been trying to get in touch with Khan.
"We would really like the opportunity to speak to the customer to carry out an investigation now she has returned home," he said.
"We’ve tried to make contact a number of times without success."
