Thomson reveals name of its sixth 787….
Living the Dream, Dream Maker, Angel of the Sky and Miles of Smiles – Thomson has run a series of campaigns to find these suitable names for its 787 Dreamliners.
But in its latest campaign, it decided to try something different and the result: a next generation aircraft will be taking to the skies with the name of, erm, Neil.
The name was chosen after Thomson invited fans of the 787 to send in photos of the aircraft via Instagram, and promised that the aircraft would take the name of the person with the best picture.
More than 680 photos were entered, narrowed down to five finalists, and the winner was chosen – Neil Langstone from Birmingham (@brummieneil_st3). His winning photo is below.
As well as having a Dreamliner named after him, the Instagrammer will also be jetting off on a luxury holiday for two to the Ambre Resort and Spa Thomson Couples hotel in Mauritius.
"To have my name displayed on a brand new Dreamliner will give me so much kudos – I can’t wait to let everyone know!" he said.
"I fell in love with the Dreamliner the first time I saw it at Birmingham airport. The sleek design and beautiful paint job seemed perfect for a photo and I tried to capture the entire aircraft to display the sheer size, scale and wingspan.
"I will be taking my fiance with me on the wonderful holiday to Mauritius, as she had to endure all of my previous statuses, shared posts and patience while I take photos for my Instagram account."
But Neil isn’t the first person to have a Thomson 787 named after him.
The second was named ‘Alfie’ after a miracle baby born 14 weeks premature in April 2007 and delivered, on board, an hour into a First Choice flight from Manchester to Heraklion by flight supervisor Carol Miller, with help from a retired nurse and ambulance driver who were also on the flight.
