Three shot dead at airport
Passengers at Mexico City’s main airport were forced to dive for cover during a police shootout which left three officers dead.
Officials say those killed were attempting to arrest two other policemen who are suspected of smuggling cocaine.
The two suspects escaped, said the BBC.
Flights were reported to be operating normally, although the area of the gun battle was immediately sealed off following the incident.
Reuters reports that gang violence has been growing in Mexico City and its suburbs, with around 300 gang-related murders last year, although daylight shootings in public areas are rare.
