Three UNESCO sites in one package
KUALA LUMPUR – Sixteen travel and tour operators from Malaysia and Indonesia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote three UNESCO World Heritage sites – Borobudur, Malacca and Penang – under one travel package.
The package will target heritage and culture enthusiasts in the region as well as senior citizens.
Several reciprocal visits and familiarisation trips have been arranged for travel agents from both countries to visit these UNESCO heritage sites.
Among initiatives agreed between travel and tour agents from both countries are that the Malaysian travel agents will contribute their strength in sourcing tourists from the Chinese and Japanese markets to extend their visits to Borobudur after their stopover in Malaysia.
Indonesian agents will contribute their strength in tapping tourists from the European markets to extend their visits to Malacca and Penang after visiting Borobudur.
It was also agreed to engage elite tourist guides for the World Heritage package. Guides would have good communication skills, be knowledgeable and able to give a good interpretation of the products.
