Titanic memorial hit by medical emergency
A Titanic memorial cruise, which left Southampton on Sunday to follow the route taken by the ill-fated ship 100 years ago, was forced to turn back after a BBC cameraman onboard suffered a suspected heart attack.
The MS Balmoral yesterday returned 20 nautical miles towards the Irish coast so that the 56-year-old could be airlifted by helicpoter to hospital. The ship has since resumed its voyage.
The ship, whose passengers include some of the descendants of those who sailed on Titanic, is heading for the wreck site where a memorial service has been planned to mark the sinking on April 14, 1912.
The Balmoral is carrying 1,309 passengers to New York, recreating Titanic’s original planned voyage.
More than 1,500 passengers and crew died when Titanic hit an iceberg and sank.
