Tokyo Narita adding self-service bag drop to ease Olympics passenger flow
Tokyo’s Narita Airport plans to install dozens of self-service auto bag drop terminals to cope with high passenger volume during the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
There will be 72 new ABD units installed which will help speed up check-in and bag-drop times for passengers of multiple airlines.
The Series 7 ABD units are designed and built by ICM Airport Technics.
"ICM is delighted to have been appointed by Narita to bring our world-leading self-service solutions to improve the passenger experience and throughput in time for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games," said ICM Group CEO Richard Dinkelmann.
It is ICM’s first partnership in Japan.
Japan is hoping to lure 40 million tourist arrivals by 2020.
Tokyo Narita is a key hub for the main global airline alliances, SkyTeam, Star Alliance and One World.
