Tony Hughes leaves Qatar to join Omega
Former P&O managing director and Guild of Business Travel Agents chairman Tony Hughes has joined travel management company Omega World Travel as commercial director, EMEA, based in London.
Hughes, who has spent the past three years at Qatar Airways as senior vice president, The Americas, will oversee sales and operations for the Europe, Middle East and Asia region.
In addition, his brief is to further expand Omega's global reach. The company is one of the largest business travel agencies in the US.
Omega CEO Gloria Bohan said: “Tony’s extensive market knowledge and global industry experience will help us enhance our global structure to better position Omega as a key player in the world market.”
Hughes has worked in the travel arena for more than 40 years, holding various senior management positions with major industry organisations and TMCs in both the UK and the US.
Prior to joining Qatar, he served as president and CEO of Radius, a US-based global travel consortium, and he was previously managing director of P&O in the UK where his executive responsibilities included P&O Travel India and P&O Travel Hong Kong.
“He is uniquely qualified to lead our EMEA marketing efforts,” says Bohan of Hughes. “Tony has a keen eye for identifying opportunities and developing result-oriented strategies that will achieve our objectives for a larger global presence.”
Hughes is a past chairman of the Guild of Business Travel Agents and the Surface Transport Working Party and the Air Working Party. He has represented the industry on the IATA Agency Programme Joint Council (APJC). He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Travel & Tourism and a member of the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE).
