Tourism chiefs recognised in Queen’s birthday honours list
VisitBritain chief executive Tom Wright has been awarded a CBE for services to the tourist industry in the Queen’s birthday honours list.
As well as careers with Saga Holidays and Center Parcs, Wright has contributed to the work of Visit London, South West Tourism, European Travel Commission, Imperial War Museum and the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers.
Tom McGrath OBE JP, chairman of the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, was also awarded a CBE for services to the tourist industry.
Meanwhile, Richard Brown, chief executive of Eurostar, and Rear Admiral Roy Clare, lately director of the National Maritime Museum, were honoured for services to transport and museums respectively.
OBEs were awarded to Sarah Collins, curator for the British Museum, for services to museums, Sara Stanes, director of the Academy of Culinary Arts, for services to the hospitality industry, and to Duncan Wilson, chief executive, Greenwich Foundation for the Old Royal Naval College, for services to heritage.
MBEs were awarded to Sanjay Anand, restaurateur and entrepreneur, Julia Hands, chair and chief executive of Handpicked Hotels, and Professor Peter Jones from Bournemouth for services to the hospitality industry.
Peter Bailey, curator for Newhaven Local and Maritime Museum, and Kenneth Reeves, curator for Kington Museum, Herefordshire, received MBEs for services to museums.
