Aleevee8 disrupting mountain poverty in Nepal has applications in other mountain communities

HOW IT WORKS VIDEO:

The aleevee8 Foundation held a special event at the UK Parliament last week to showcase their innovative  ‘Disrupting mountain poverty in Nepal through eco-tourism’ initiative.

The strategic high impact solution aims to turn eco adventure tourism into a sustainable poverty alleviation programme.

The focus is on creating markets at the bottom of the economic pyramid and to use those markets to sustainably finance poverty reduction.

After extensive, privately funded research and development aleevee8 CIC, a UK registered Social Enterprise, has been formed to pioneer the programme.

The Pilot Project revolves around the construction of 8 community-owned eco-lodges along a wilderness trekking route in the Gurkha region of Nepal.

Speakers and supporters of the programme included:

  • Rt. Hon Tobias Ellwood MP
  • Ambassador of Nepal His Excellency Dr. Suresh C. Chalise
  • Mark Watson, Executive Director of Tourism Concern
  • Dr Sara Parker of Liverpool John Moores University whom lived and worked in the Annapurna Conservation Area Project in Nepal in 1992 and has been engaged in action research in Nepal for the past 20 years.
  • Arturo Franco, Resident Fellow for International Development at Harvard University

The international charity has now begun its search for 8 visionary trustees to help get its new, ground-breaking poverty alleviation project off the ground. But they’re not just asking for money. The aleevee8 Foundation wants their new trustees to roll-up their sleeves and get to work making the project a success…

"This is a global search for eight visionary people who want to make a difference." Said David Frankel, Chief Visionary Officer & Interim CEO of aleevee8. "Rarely do philanthropists get a chance to actually be a part of the ideas that they help fund through their donations. This is a hands-on opportunity to make a good idea grow."

Investors who want to make a donation of $US 75,000 (£46,000) will get an opportunity to acquire a ‘seat at the table’ as trustees of the aleevee8 Foundation. They will also travel to Nepal to see aleevee8’s eco-tourism first-hand as part of the ‘trustee interview process’
