Tourism Ireland brand to be reviewed

Thursday, 26 Jun, 2007 0

A report in The Irish Times says that an eight member board has been appointed to carryout a review of Tourism Ireland – the first since the brand’s inception more than 10 years ago.

The review board consists of local and international marketing and brand professionals from outside the tourism industry and will encompass all of Ireland’s tourism development.

The last comprehensive review of the Irish tourism industry was undertaken in 1995 and led to the development of the Tourism Ireland brand now used in all marketing.

The brand was “refined” in 2001 and 2004 and is seen as key in increasing tourism to the country, culminating in a record 8.8 million visitors in 2006.

Tourism Ireland CEO Paul O’Toole said the review would gather “as wide a perspective as possible” to enhance its work. Input from the Irish tourism industry was “vitally important” to the brand review, he said.

The review board will be chaired by branding expert and author David Nichols, and also includes marketing professor David Carson, Dr. Maureen Gaffney, John Fanning, Ciarán Ó Gaora, Regine Reinhardt, Trevor Ringland and Mark Thompson.
