Tourism Ireland to host journalists award
Tourism Ireland has announced that it will present two journalists with awards for published stories about Ireland between February 2007-2008.
The awards will be presented to two writers who wrote the best travel articles (as deemed by the judges) in an Australian magazine and newspaper respectively.
Winners will receive not only a financial incentive but a beautiful piece of Waterford Crystal.
In addition to the hand-crafted piece of crystal kindly sponsored by Waterford Crystal, the two winners will also receive $1000 as part of their prize. Tourism Ireland is delighted to have the support of Waterford Crystal which symbolises the best in Irish craftsmanship, beauty and quality.
Tourism Ireland monitors all travel articles published about Ireland in newspapers and magazines throughout Australia.
These articles will be automatically entered into the selection list however travel writers are asked to notify Orla Saul by Friday, 22nd February 2008 to alert her of an article to ensure it is has been included.
Three judges will select the winning writer from a short-list of articles.
They will be Irish-born, travel writer and Lonely Planet Director – Maureen Wheeler, Paul O’Toole, CEO of Tourism Ireland and Fiona Irving, Marketing Manager, Waterford Crystal.
The articles will be judged on how Ireland is featured based on a number of key criteria:
Creativity: style of writing, imagery
Innovation: fresh approach, inspirational
Information: facts accuracy and call to action
Circulation of the published article will be taken into account but will not be the defining factor.
Tourism Ireland will announce the winners at a reception at Aria Restaurant, Sydney on Thursday, 13th March 2008.
It is not clear if on line will be included, but due The Moel will be asking!
