Tourism jobs boom
An ABC report says that a raft of Tourism Tasmania jobs have been advertised in weekend newspapers as part of a restructure of the organisation.
CEO Felicia Mariani says about 70 jobs have been advertised for the Hobart head office over the past year as part of the organisation’s restructure – 10 more were advertised on the weekend.
Ms Mariani says some of the new roles will help the organisation compete in an internet-driven market.
“We have created within the organisation a digital services team and that group will help us deliver on the very complex environment of digital distribution in the world of travel and tourism,” she said.
“The consumer is demanding more and more to have access to product at a digital level.”
“With the positions that we have advertised over the past 12 months, more than 80 per cent of those roles have actually been filled with our internal staff so what we have done for many people is actually created new opportunities for them and in many instances they’ve gotten promotions out of this process.”
Ms Mariani says there have been no job cuts as part of the restructure.
