Tourism Malaysia launches tourist safety app
Tourism Malaysia last week unveiled a new app aimed making all travellers feel safe when in the country.
It launched the My Tourist Assist (MyTA) mobile app which was developed by tech firm UST Global, and is available for Andoid and iOS devices.
The app will feature updates and news relevant to visiting tourists, and the ‘UrSafe’ tab with a SOS button to get assistance from emergency services in the event of any emergency.
It also sends an alert to the traveller’s next of kin.
"An emergency or SOS button will connect the user directly to the authorities. What’s more vital is that this application functions even when the user does not have Internet access and if an emergency signal is sent, the location of the users can be tracked through the technology being developed," said Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Seri Mirza Mohammad Taiyab.
The app also includes several other functions, including locations of essential services from ATMs to hospital, pharmacies, and the nearest police station.
"We are happy to work with Malaysia Tourism in launching My Tourist Assist app. We successfully launched UrSafe back in India and we are proud to bring the same for the safety of tourists in Malaysia," said Gilroy Mathew, head of APAC at UST Global.
