Tourist shot dead in crossfire of Bangkok teen gang dispute

Bangkok’s teen gang violence has turned deadly for tourists caught in the crossfire of a gun battle.

One Indian tourist died after being hit by gunfire and four others were injured as they waited for a tour bus in in the popular Pratunam shopping district.

One gang member was detained and several others are being hunted by police.

Several teenagers ‘had an argument, and started shooting in a small alley near a Bangkok mall’ said police spokesman Krissana Pattanacharoen.

The incident took place behind the Centara Watergate Pavillion Hotel.

Police identified the dead tourist as 42-year-old Gakhrejr Dheeraj.

A second Indian tourist, a Lao man and two Thai nationals were also injured.

Police Major-General Senit Samararn Samruajkit said three teenagers opened fire with rifles and as many as 20 were armed with pistols, knives and sticks, according to witness accounts.
