Tourists advised Cypriot banks back to normal
Holidaymakers travelling to Cyprus have been advised that banks have now reopened and cash machines, debit and credit cards are working as normal.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office website said that although limits have been imposed on withdrawals from Cypriot bank accounts, this should not apply to withdrawals from UK or other foreign bank accounts.
But it added: "You should, however, be aware that you will only be allowed to take €1,000 in cash out of Cyprus."
Banks had previously been closed to prevent mass withdrawals of money following news of a tax levy to prevent the country’s banking system collapsing.
The FCO had been advising tourist to take cash as ATMs were being limited and many businesses were not accepting cards, see previous story.
