Tourists evacuation from Cancun moving slow
Thousands of tourists are streaming out of hurricane-battered Cancun, but getting all visitors out looks like a lengthy process, according to wire service reports from Mexico.
Tourism officials said about 6,000 people flew out of Cancun airport Tuesday. They said another 22,000 foreign visitors remained in the area.
Meanwhile, Marriott International says it is closing is three resorts in Cancun through the rest of the year.
Another chain, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, was quoted by Reuters as saying it was too early to tell the damage to its two hotels. Both had been evacuated.
Analysts are preparing predictions of the storm’s long term impact as well as its effect on the upcoming spring break.
As part of the Maya Riviera, Cancun has long been a popular spot for partying teenagers.
