Tourists freed by Egyptian gunmen
Thee Egyptian State tourist office has issued a statement following the kidnapping of two American tourists and their Egyptian guide.
It said the Egyptian government and security forces succeeded in releasing both tourists and their guide in record time.
"The Ministry of Tourism and the Egyptian Tourist Authority are affirming and reassuring that the Egyptian government is working on bringing the kidnappers to justice and exerting all efforts to further increase safety and security for tourists all over Egypt during their stay in the country," said the statement.
The two tourists were snatched by gunmen in Egypt’s Sinai peninsula (see earlier newsflash).
Security forces said the women and their Egyptian tour guide were released a few hours later into army custody.
The three were taken when their small tour bus was attacked by masked men with machine guns while travelling with three other tourists from St Catherine’s monastery on Mount Sinai to Sharm el-Sheikh.
