Trade ‘sigh of relief’ as England is knocked out
Tour operators have expressed relief that the England football team has failed to qualify for the 2008 European tournament.
The trade was concerned that qualification for the finals in Austria and Switzerland would have hit key summer 2008 bookings.
A spokesperson for Thomson and First Choice said as England boss Steve McClaren was dismissed by the Football Association: “It is well documented that England’s involvement in major football tournaments can affect holiday bookings as some fans delay their holiday until England get knocked out or the tournament ends.
“While disappointed our boys didn’t make it through, we are obviously pleased that we don’t need to consider the football when planning for summer 2008.”
