Trans States Airlines to cease flying at year-end
Regional carrier Trans States Airlines, which has been flying for four decades, will cease all operations in late 2020.
It will close down following the end of its contract as one of United Airlines’ regional partners at the end of this year.
Trans States Holdings Partners CEO Rick Leach shared the bad news with the workforce in an internal memo.
The United Express operator has been flying a fleet of 40 Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft on United’s regional routes.
Leach blames United’s move to consolidate its regional partners and the ongoing pilot’s shortage.
Based in Bridgeton, Miss., Trans States had been a United Express carrier since 1995.
It launched back in 1982 originally as ResortAir.
"Trans States still has an extremely important role to play in the United network throughout the reminder of 2020, but you will see a measured reduction of aircraft come off-line before the start of summer flying," the memo to staff said.
Trans States’ fleet of aircraft will gradually transfer over to another of United’s regional partners ExpressJet Airlines.
Trans States Holdings Partners will still operate airline subsidiaries Compass and GoJet.
GoJet also partners with United and will continue to do so.
In fact, it is expanding its dedicated GoJet fleet of Bombardier CRJ aircraft.
The Compass brand has a regional flying contract with American Airlines.
United says it doesn’t expect any disruptions to scheduled flights as the Trans States Airlines service gradually winds down toward the end of the year.
