Transport Canada grounds airline after crash
Transport Canada has clipped the wings of a regional airline involved in a crash earlier this month.
The regulator suspended the operator certificate of West Wind Aviation, citing a deficient safety control systems.
A West Wind Aviation ATR crash landed in Saskatchewan on December 13.
All 25 people aboard survived but several were seriously injured.
"In the interest of public safety, Transport Canada suspended West Wind Aviation’s Air Operator Certificate and will not allow the company to resume its commercial air service until it demonstrates compliance with aviation safety regulations," it said.
"Transport Canada takes its aviation safety oversight role very seriously and expects every air operator to fully comply with aviation safety regulations."
The airline said it had already decided to ground all operations.
"We are working diligently to resolve any issues, with the aim of restarting operations as soon as possible," the airline said.
TSB investigators still haven’t found the exact cause of the crash but ruled out engine failure.
