‘Travel agent obsolete’ debate hits Time magazine
Travel agents just want — and deserve — some respect.
First it was Woman’s Day magazine that suggested travel agents are obsolete; then it was CareerCast.com (see our previous stories).
Last week Time magazine picked up the debate, under the headline, "Travel Agents Fight Back, Insisting They’re Not Useless or Obsolete."
The Time article did not take sides, simply repeating the stories and the responses to them from ASTA and CLIA, both of which issued statements outlining the important role travel agents play.
But several agents felt compelled to reply on the Time website.
Said Sheri Doyle, "Every travel planner I know is swamped. Definitely no need to ‘insist’ on my value."
