Travel Counsellors turnover up 17%
WTM Special Report: Home working travel agency specialist Travel Counsellors saw annual turnover rise by GBP22 million to GPB150 million in the year ending October.
The 17% increase over the same period in 2003-04 came as the company revealed that sales by its personal travel counsellors rose by 20% year-on-year.
The Bolton-based independent company, which had a stand at World Travel Market, recruited 130 additional consultants – a rise of 30% – in the past year to give it 560 agents across the UK.
More than 10 agents will be working in Ireland by the end of the month through a recruitment drive in the country. Further European expansions is planned for next year after opening in Holland last month.
Company chairman David Speakman claimed high street agents ‘have become just booking offices where staff tap into computers, sell on price and add no value in expertise and advice to the client.’
He added: ‘They don’t look after customers and anticipate what the customer will need once on holiday.’
