Travel firms get ABTECH website audit
Ten travel companies are to have their websites audited in an ABTECH project.
The ‘usability’ study is being carried out until the end of the month in conjunction with website design firm Jamber.
Companies to have their websites reviewed include Ilkeston Co-op, Kuoni, packyourbags.com, Preston Travel Group, Shearings, and United Co-op.
The results of the project, which is being sponsored by e-commerce firm Multicom, will be made available to help the companies involved with their future site planning.
ABTECH chairman Graham Barnes said the audit would highlight the importance of good findable content, clear online propositions and ergonomic ‘fit for purpose’ style and design.
He said: “Seach engine optimisation is getting all the press right now but we feel that the balance is wrong. It isn’t an either/or decision but much of the management time spent on arcane SEO techniques could be more usefully spent on ensuring sites are doing their owners justice.”
Jamber managing director Jerry Foot added: “ABTECH’s work on abta.com has been aimed at helping ABTA member companies extend their online marketing reach so the usability project is a natural development.
“We want to make sure that as many as possible of the one million-plus visitors to abta.com delivers to member websites each year go on to make bookings.”
