Topsy-turvy Tuesday trading sees mixed fortunes for industry shares
Travel industry shares had a mixed day yesterday as London’s equity markets shared differing fortunes.
While blue-chip shares suffered and sent the FTSE 100 index down 25.1 points to 4102.5, the broader-based FTSE 250 gained 26.1 points to close at 5207.7 – an increase of 0.5 per cent on the day. Dealers had a relatively busy day, trading some 2.9 billion shares before the 6pm count.
Among the airlines, British Airways gained 2p to close at 181p, EasyJet lost half a penny for a 239.5p finish, while Ryanair pushed ahead 6p to end the day at 435p.
MyTravel had a good day, adding 2.25p to close at 27.5p, but First Choice Holidays put on half a penny to end the day at 122p – just 0.5p away from its 12-month high. On the online side, ebookers lost 9p for a 501p close, while Lastminute.com gained 5.75p to finish at 190.25p.
