EasyJet rallies, but Stelios will sell more shares
The FTSE 100 index drifted back to end last week at 4,021.5 after a partial revival from heavy losses earlier in the week, but was still 46 points down amid a 4th of July lack of activity on both sides of the Atlantic.
Meanwhile the FTSE 250 index eased 0.2 points to 4,987.2. EasyJet rallied 12p to 242p after the previous day’s drop, following news that that founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou had sold 1.9 per cent of the airline’s stock to fund his easyCinema venture. But the Sunday Times Business reported yesterday that the Greek tycoon plans to sell more airline shares to buoy his other loss-making businesses.
Ryanair was also up 6p at 406p. Elsewhere MyTravel held steady, but other travel industry shares lost ground. Ebookers dropped 4p to 298.6p and lastminute.com closed just 0.25p down on 179p. First Choice Holidays slipped 0.5p to 114.5p, and British Airways, after a week of downs and ups, lost just 2p on the day to close on 161p.
