TravelManagers Australia See Technology as Key to Efficiencies
TravelManagers in Australia recently implemented an in-house intranet system.
Matthew Harris [right], House of Travel’s Australian-based director of IT remarked that while the intranet had a raft of features he identified two as particularly beneficial to their Personal Travel Managers (PTMs);
“Having access to good content is vital. Our content is fantastic and covers a very wide range of information. We have included dedicated pages for suppliers which are extremely popular. A critical advantage was having the content accessible through the navigation and search systems. It makes accessing specific content fast and efficient.â€
The other feature was the Message Board which Harris saw as a vehicle to share the immense professional knowledge the personal travel managers have amongst each other.
Harris says “With over 130 personal travel managers the knowledge between them is simply phenomenal. We wanted to leverage that for our customers and at the same time for our personal travel managers. It makes good business sense, but it needed to be easy to use which is what we have achieved and the feedback reflects that.â€
Content is selected for its relevance to the Australian market and local business but where common benefit exists, e.g. destination and product information, the Australian personal travel managers will share data with the 1,100 members of House of Travel’s New Zealand intranet users also. Future improvements will benefit the company’s partner suppliers and its PTMs’ customers.
Harris says the system is backed up with training and technical support if the personal travel managers require it and that future improvements are planned.
