TravelMole Interview: Glenn D. Harris
TravelMole Interview: Glenn D. Harris, founder of Caribbean Escapes Marketing Inc. It’s no accident that tourists are again looking at the Caribbean for vacations, says Glenn D. Harris, principal and founder of Caribbean Escapes Marketing Inc. “A few years ago, travel agents were not looking at the Caribbean, but that’s changed. They now see it as an optimal destination. It’s close by. It has a diversity of offerings and it’s safe,” he told TavelMole. Mr Harris’s co-op venture targets upscale properties. They receive low-cost visibility through TV travel shows, a 400-page annual manual and a web site with a booking engine linked to specific hotel partners. The co-operative program has 100 upscale hotels. “They’re all superior, luxury properties. Some are rated five-star, while others are four-star plus, but they’re all recognized by Conde Naste or someone else as elite places to go,” said Mr Harris. Agents can receive immediate access to updated material targeted specifically to the luxury Caribbean market. They can also book online or choose to receive targeted e-mails listing special packages. Mr Harris formally launched his program last year at the World Travel Market in London. He said the group’s hotel collection is by invitation only. In addition to hotels and resorts, the co-op represents top restaurants, golf courses, spas and boutique shops. Mr Harris, a former Caribbean marketing manager for American Express, says his future plans are to expand beyond the Caribbean into other markets.
