Travelmole Technology Digest – July round-up.
This month’s technology news has been all about travel providers pushing content through their preferred channels to save costs and increase efficiency.
July 17: Agents are given the ability to directionally sell flights with enhanced functionality added to Dolphin Flightscanner. The technology enables travel agency bosses to control the order in which search results are displayed to sales consultants.
July 14: American Airlines throws US agents into turmoil with plans to charge US$3.50 a segment if they do not book with the airline’s preferred GDS suppliers. Similar deals are believed to be on the cards in Europe.
July 14: Amadeus announces the latest results of its ongoing Show Me the Value agency survey and reveals greater inefficiencies in leisure agents than travel management companies or consolidators.
July 11: Virgin Atlantic to sell through multiple Travelport channels giving agents access to web fares and lowest class fares via Galileo while the airline will also distribute via Travelport’s online channels such as Orbitz and ebookers.
July 5: Eurostar to be displayed alongside airlines on GDS screens enabling agents to compare departure times and prices. Other European rail networks to be added.
