Travelocity courts gay and lesbian market
What online companies are most active in courting the growing gay and lesbian travel market?
Travelocity and Orbitz have been the most visible, according to a report in LATIMES.com.
“We’re just getting started making our presence louder and prouder,” said Bryan Saltzburg, Travelocity vice president of packaging, cruise and travel extras.
Travelocity is the official sponsor of gay pride festivals. The company also advertises on gay travel sites and has a customer support phone line staffed with people specially trained to handle gas and lesbian travelers.
Both Travelocity and Orbitz have gay and lesbian travel sections on their web sites.
Nearly 90% of gays and lesbians have traveled in the past year, according to a survey by Harris Interactive.
The same survey found that gays and lesbians were twice as likely as non-gays to have traveled outside the US within the last three years.
