Travelscene launches accommodation-only website
Travelscene has opened an accommodation-only website to capitalise in the burgeoning no-frills flights sector.
The Citybedz.com site features more than 100 cities and “thousands” of hotel rooms, with prices starting at £18 a night in Istanbul in November or December.
The short break specialist claims the properties selected are centrally located and include breakfast in the price.
The website has gone live as the operator releases its second edition Cities brochure which goes on sale from 14 June.
The programme, which runs until 31 March 2005, comes as the company introduces online bookings for air and Eurostar packages via www.travelscene.co.uk.
The operator claims prices have been reduced, particularly in July and August to compensate for an expected downturn in June due to the Euro 2004 football championships. Savings of up to £77 per person by air to Amsterdam are offered, bringing the costs of a two-night stay down to £216.
Prices in the brochure start at £115 per person for a night in Paris by Eurostar based on two sharing.
Marketing manager Louise Newton said there had been a “marked polarisation” between dynamically packaged bargain breaks and its bespoke business serviced by reservations agents.
“Whilst there is no getting away from the overwhelming demand for cheap deals, using up to the minute pricing on hotels and no-frills travel, there is strong demand for tailor-made breaks,” she said. “And for those clients it’s the individuality of the package that is the prime motivation and not the price, although value is still the keyword.”
