Travelzoo plans UK launch
A US company specialising in the distribution of special offers direct to consumers is in talks with operators as it prepares to launch in the UK.
Travelzoo confirmed it was in the process of approaching UK travel firms ahead of a soft launch early next month. It is due to address the industry at the EyeforTravel conference, also in early June.
The company, which publishes thousands of deals each week and has eight million US subscribers, said it will “take the hassle out of travel research” for UK holidaymakers.
A Top 20 e-newsletter will also be distributed containing recommended, hand-picked deals of the week.
“There are many companies offering deals but many are subjective and based on the market and season,” said newly appointed Travelzoo UK managing director Chris Loughlin. “We do not work on a commission basis so our recommendations are completely objective. We help hundreds of travel companies reach consumers through our publications and charge a cost per click. We also test book each deal for availability before and after publishing.”
He stressed the offers were not limited to late sales but for travel months in advance.
Travelocity, American Airlines, Expedia and Carnival are among its US clients.
“We have spoken with a number of global brands who we already work with and they have been very positive about our UK launch,” added Loughlin. “We already have several thousand UK subscribers and hope to ramp it up quickly.”
Travelzoo reported 27 consecutive quarters of revenue growth since launching in the US and was the number one gainer on NASDAQ in 2004.
