Tropical Storm Sonia threatens Los Cabos
Mexico’s Pacific coast, including the tourist town of Los Cabos, is braced for its second big storm of the hurricane season, as Tropical Storm Sonia hits this morning.
Sonia has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, and could produce up to 10 inches of rainfall and 12-foot waves, flash floods and mudslides the U.S. hurricane center said.
Los Cabos has closed its port to small craft and opened a shelter, in case people need to be evacuated.
The same area was hit in September by Hurricane Manuel.
Schools were closed on Monday in five municipalities, and 60 shelters were opened across the region.
