Trump Hotels donates foreign government profits to US Treasury

The Trump Organization said it donated almost $200,000 to the U.S. Treasury in profits gained from money spent at Trump Hotels from members of foreign governments.

It follows a promise not to benefit financially from foreign governments’ business after the President took office.

In the first year of office The Trump Organization donated $151,000.

The company said a check for $191,538 was sent to Treasury for events and hotel stays at the Washington DC and other Trump Hotels.

"This voluntary donation fulfils our pledge to donate profits from foreign government patronage at our hotels and similar businesses during our father’s term in office," said Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization.

"Unlike any other luxury hospitality company, we do not market to or solicit foreign government business. In fact, we go to great lengths to discourage foreign government patronage.

The Treasury donations have been criticized by Democrats and watchdog groups as secretive as the numbers cannot be independently verified.

They say there is no way to check how the company is calculating the profits and the figure doesn’t cover all Trump hotels and resorts.

The donation won’t derail the ongoing emoluments lawsuits against the President which accuse him of profiting from his position as President by accepting business from foreign government officials.

The Trump Organization recently shelved plans for two new hotel brands in the US due to a ‘toxic political climate.’
