Trump Hotels mulls big US expansion

Conflict of interest concerns regarding the President and his business interests are unlikely to die down after Trump Hotels said it may greatly expand its portfolio in the US.

Trump Hotels CEO Eric Danziger said Trump Hotels could expand to all major metro areas.

"There are 26 major metropolitan areas in the US, and we’re in five. I don’t see any reason that we couldn’t be in all of them eventually," he said at a panel discussion during the Americas Lodging Investment Summit in Los Angeles.

If that were to happen it would effectively triple the current portfolio.

It currently has eight hotels and Danzinger says the company is looking at opportunities in Dallas, Seattle, Denver and San Francisco.

The delayed Vancouver Trump Hotel is set to have its grand opening next month.

The recently announced lower priced brand Scion would make its debut later this year, Danzinger added, and would operate in smaller cities.

President Trump had handed over management of the Trump Organization to his two eldest sons and said there would be no new foreign transactions during his term of office.

He has been urged to completely divest his holdings and an ethics watchdog has already filed a lawsuit claiming it violates the Constitution.
