Trump inauguration leads to ten-fold increase in hotel prices
Donald Trump’s upcoming presidential inauguration has led to a sharp rate rise at Washington DC hotels.
Rates are on average 927% higher for the time of year, said travel search site Trivago.
It claimed rates had surged to an average $2,071 per night for a standard double room.
Central DC hotel rates are usually a little more than $200 on average per night during January.
There were fears the Trump inauguration was likely to be more muted than previous first term presidential inaugurations, but an additional 200,000 people are expected for the ‘Women’s March on Washington’ anti-Trump rally on Saturday.~
Meanwhile home sharing platform Airbnb said it had already taken bookings for more than 15,000 guests for the inauguration.
It had originally targeted about 10,000 between January 19 and 21,
Airbnb said the average nightly rate is $129 per night.
