Trump picks former Delta pilot for FAA chief
President Trump announced former Delta Air Lines executive Stephen Dickson as his pick for the permanent head of the Federal Aviation Administration.
Dickson retired as Delta’s senior vice president of flight operations last year and was originally a pilot with Delta during a 27-year career at the airline.
At Delta he oversaw safety, pilot training and regulatory compliance and is also a former Air Force F-15 fighter pilot.
"Steve is passionate about safety and has a deep understanding of the needs of the aviation industry and the traveling public," said Michael Huerta, a former FAA administrator.
Trump has previously indicated he wanted the next FAA chief to be someone with flying experience and practical knowledge of aircraft safety.
The FAA has been headed by Daniel Elwell as acting administrator since early 2018.
If confirmed by the Senate, Dickson will serve for a five-year term.
