TSA adds 11 more airlines to PreCheck program

The Transportation Security Administration has added 11 new carriers for its fast track screening program, TSA PreCheck.

Eligible passengers traveling on flights operated by Aruba Airlines, Avianca, Boutique Airlines, Emirates, Key Lime Air, Miami Air International, Southern Airways Express, Spirit Airlines, Sunwing, Virgin Atlantic and Xtra Airways can now use expedited screening lines.

This latest expansion takes the number of airlines in the program to 30.

"Partnering with 11 additional airlines to offer TSA PreCheck will significantly increase our trusted traveler population, and reflects our commitment to implement the most effective aviation security," said TSA acting administrator Huban A. Gowadia.

"By collaborating with our partners in industry and the aviation community, we will continue to increase the number of airlines participating in TSA PreCheck, enabling more eligible travelers across the country to experience expedited screening."

Passenger eligible to use PreCheck have paid an enrolment fee of $85 and undergone background checks and in-person interview.

The enrolment fee is good for five years.

The speed and number of PreCheck enrolments have begun to pick up after massive, slow moving airport security lines were highlighted last spring.

Some airlines now allow the fee to be paid by frequent flyer reward points.
